We have a number of ongoing research projects that are actively recruiting for in-laboratory studies or looking for survey responses to support research aimed at creating resilient communities and industries in Canada and improve the assessment and mitigation of climate-related impacts on human health and well-being.

QUESTIONNAIRE: How do you Handle the Heat? A Canada-Wide Survey on the General Public’s Knowledge, Risk Perceptions, Attitudes and Practices Related to Heat Stress Given that the frequency of heatwaves are projected to increase in frequency and severity due to rising global temperatures, public heat stress prevention and management are of critical importance to prevent adverse heat-health effects. With the summer season fast approaching, we are conducting a Canada-wide online survey on the general public's knowledge, risk perceptions, attitudes and practices related to heat stress. The results of this survey will help increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of heat stress prevention and management programs and assist in directing the development of future programs and protections. This survey is looking for responses from adults 50 years and older in Canada. The survey will take 20 minutes to complete, and all responses will be anonymous.

QUESTIONNAIRE: Heat Stress Questionnaire for Workers in the Canadian Mining Industry Heat stress in the mining industry has been a cause for concern for many decades. Whether on-surface, underground or in-plant, Canadian miners perform physically demanding jobs that, when combined with exposure to hot environments, can lead to dangerous elevations in core temperature and burden the entire body. To better understand these issues, we are assessing the determinants of heat stress and strain from the worker's perspective. The survey findings will increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of heat stress prevention and management programs that can be widely adopted and implemented by member organizations across Canada. This survey is looking for responses from employees in the Canadian mining industry, including underground, open-pit mines, smelters, refineries, and exploration projects. The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete, and all responses will be anonymous.

QUESTIONNAIRE: Heat Stress Questionnaire for Health & Safety Personnel in the Canadian Mining Industry Given that heat stress is projected to increase in severity with rising global temperatures, occupational heat stress prevention and management are of critical importance to prevent adverse heat-health effects and support safe and effective work. To date, there is only a superficial understanding of the key factors contributing to excessive heat stress and strain in the mining industry, which limits our ability to design practical heat-mitigation strategies to safeguard worker health and safety. To better understand these issues, a survey of personnel responsible for the health and safety of company workers aimed at evaluating heat risk management methodologies and practices. The survey findings will increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of heat stress prevention and management programs that can be widely adopted and implemented by member organizations across Canada. This survey is looking for responses from Health and Safety Personnel in the Canadian mining industry, including underground, open-pit mines, smelters, refineries, and exploration projects. The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete, and all responses will be anonymous.
